Winner – Housing Project of the Year – Building of the Year Awards, 2017
Phase 1 of this development comprised 8 units of 1 and 2 bedroom semi-detached houses on this edge of town greenfield site. John Halligan Architects were appointed design team leader for the project, commissioned by St. Vincent de Paul and Mayo County Council. The houses form a cluster surrounding a landscaped green space. The design promotes pedestrian priority and generates an environment of communal involvement. Seating areas are interspersed along with planters to facilitate forming relationships between neighbours. Each house is fully accessible and meets the relevant standards and requirements for disabled access. The development has received praise from residents for design and comfort levels.
